What is the TAGE MAGE?
The Tage Mage is an aptitude test, not a knowledge test. It is published by FNEGE, a foundation recognized as serving the public interest, and is used in applications to management programs at both schools and universities.
The test does not result in a pass or fail. Candidates receive a score report valid for two calendar years, and each institution decides how to use it. There is no universal cutoff, and FNEGE does not publish one.
Ninety questions, each with five options and one correct answer, across six sections of 15 questions and 20 minutes each. The test lasts two hours with no break or calculator; the test booklet can be used for scratch work. FNEGE adds about 30 minutes for instructions and recommends allowing three and a half hours.
To start preparing, separate two needs: understand the general rules, then identify which section is difficult for you. This guide covers the first; the six guides below address the second with a method, a worked example, and concepts to practice. After each example, note what caused your mistake—directions, knowledge, reasoning, or timing—before deciding what to work on next.

What has changed
- Current scoring rules There is no penalty for a wrong answer or an unanswered question. Leaving an answer blank to avoid losing points therefore does not protect your score; the FNEGE pages cited here do not say when this rule took effect. Understand your score (opens in a new tab)
- Older scores Scores earned before January 1, 2025, are no longer valid. Frequently asked questions (opens in a new tab)
What are the six sections?
Fifteen questions and twenty minutes per section, in test order. Select a section to open its guide.

How is the score calculated?
The FNEGE pages cited here publish the score structure, but not how correct answers are converted into a domain score. Here is what they do establish.
The six sections are grouped into three aptitude domains, each containing two sections. Each domain covers 30 questions and 40 minutes and receives a score out of 60.

-
Logical Reasoning
Overall score = the average of the three domains × 10, reported out of 600.
FNEGE does not publish an average score by test session, and the cited pages do not assign a point value to each correct answer. There is no cutoff shared by all schools: each institution sets its own criteria. Check the program’s official page for any admissions cutoff.
