The Upsilar platform

A clear path.
Work that lasts.

Upsilar is an online platform to understand lessons, practice, and prepare for exams, concept by concept. The TAGE MAGE, the GMAT, the GRE and the TOEIC and are prepared there; the TOEFL has its own guide.

Chapter 1 · The method

Every concept has a status. Prerequisites unlock what comes next.

A question bank lets you choose. Upsilar tells you what to work on, and in what order.

Every concept has a status.

Upcoming, open, or explored: your queue gathers concepts unlocked by prerequisites, and “Recommended for you” suggests the next one—here, instantaneous speed.

Read, then continue.

Reading the lesson to the end counts as exploring the concept, with no required quiz. Then choose a practice set, another lesson, or a session.

Every answer counts.

Every submitted answer, right or wrong, counts as exploring the concept. Progress tracks your work, not your score.

Prerequisites unlock what comes next.

Explored concepts unlock the next ones and add them to your queue: in this example, average speed unlocks instantaneous speed, then “Differentiate a Position.”

Your progress is saved.

Your progress is saved. Pick up where you left off, with no forced review or reset.

Prerequisites and the testing effect: Bloom (1968), Roediger & Karpicke (2006). These studies inform the method; they do not measure Upsilar’s own results.

Chapter 2 · Lessons

One lesson per topic. A clear next step.

Understand before you practice: each lesson covers one topic, and reading it counts toward your progress.

  2. Average velocityExplored
  3. Instantaneous velocityOpen
  4. Differentiating positionUP NEXT

The library organizes lessons by topic, in curriculum order. In this example, the lesson ends with a summary sheet. Reading it to the end explores the topic, without a required quiz.

At the end, choose from three next steps: a question set on the topic, the next lesson, or a practice session. In this example, finishing “Instantaneous velocity” opens “Differentiating position.”

Chapter 3 · Practice

Practice: follow a path, or build your own session.

Practice the topics open to you, in order — or build a session when you know what you want to work on.

Explore follows prerequisites: a subject, then its topics in order — position, average velocity, then instantaneous velocity. Mixing Desk brings all question sets together; Build Your Own starts from your criteria.

Before you start, set the correction mode, timer — per question, total time, or unlimited — and question order.

Chapter 4 · The exam

A mock test that follows your exam’s rules.

Practice within a defined framework: section order, timing, and navigation follow the rules of your chosen exam plan. This example follows the Tage Mage format.

Before you begin, see the exam plan: its blocks, their durations, question counts, and rules. For the Tage Mage, the six subtests run in the official order.

In this example, the session applies each subtest’s timer and configured navigation. Each question has five answer choices. Solutions come afterward, with your results.

Chapter 5 · Results

The solution, step by step. Then the Forge.

Understanding a mistake is only the start: apply the method to a new exercise, then use your results to decide what to study next.

The worked solution explains the reasoning behind the question: in this example, average speed uses the total time, including the break, rather than the average of the two speeds. The “In video” preview illustrates a lesson video about this method, separate from the worked solution.

The Forge then offers a matching exercise with new values. Your results revisit each question and identify what to work on: that is where your next steps begin.
