Which pathways lead to ESCP, and what tests do they require?
With a three-year degree or higher, applicants can apply directly through ESCP’s portal; applicants with a bachelor’s degree from outside France may also use the shared Join a School in France pathway. ESCP is not listed among Passerelle’s members in its 2026 brochure, which includes only BSB, EM Normandie, and IMT Business School. The main pathway is direct admission, open to holders of a French Licence, a three-year degree recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, or a foreign bachelor’s degree earned after at least three years of university study. Applicants may apply during their final year, through one application and one channel per year.
The table summarizes the pathways ESCP describes for the Master in Management and related entry routes, with the tests listed for each. Documents for engineering applicants (2025 intake), elite athletes (2024–2025), and Talent Spring (2026) describe their respective editions; their requirements are not applied to 2027. The table concerns the 2027 cycle unless an older edition is identified. For Pre-Master entry, distinguish two processes: entrance exams for applicants from French preparatory classes, which this article does not cover, and the Pre-Master Admission Test (PMAT). The dedicated page limits the PMAT to applicants who completed secondary school and at least two years of university (120 ECTS) outside France. The general mention of “two years of university” on the MiM page is not enough to establish eligibility.
For Talent Spring 2026, the brochure sets conditions including being no older than 30 on September 1, 2026, holding or completing a Licence by October 1, 2026, and having an average English grade above 10 over the previous two semesters. Applicants must have received a CROUS scholarship for at least two years since high school, at level 4 to 7, or document serious and lasting health issues. The brochure limits preparatory-class attendance to one term, excludes applicants who have started an M1 or management master’s program, and restricts prior ESCP applications. An English-test certificate is optional, but English is assessed during the exams. Check all nine conditions in the brochure; this summary does not replace that review.
| Pathway | Entry | Admissions tests | English test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master in Management, direct admission | French Licence, recognized three-year degree, or foreign bachelor’s degree after three years of university | TAGE MAGE, GMAT, GRE, or CAT, one test; ESCP test available if prior studies were outside France | Cambridge FCE, IELTS, TOEIC Listening and Reading, or TOEFL iBT, with minimum scores |
| Master in Management through Join a School in France | Bachelor’s degree of at least three years earned outside France | Required, one test from the list: GMAT, GRE, TAGE MAGE, CAT (TASEM is listed only by Join a School in France) | IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, or Cambridge; waiver possible under Join a School in France rules; no minimum listed in cited pages |
| Global Master in Management ESCP-CEIBS (14 months) | Graduates in business, engineering, or social sciences with at least 12 weeks of work experience | Same tests and rules as direct admission | Same minimums as direct admission |
| Pre-Master, after two years of university | 120 ECTS, B2 English; studies outside France according to the Pre-Master page (see above) | GMAT, GRE, CAT, TAGE MAGE or test ESCP | Published minimums, same as direct admission |
| Double degree with partner engineering schools (document’s 2025 intake) | Preselection by CentraleSupélec (first year), ENSAE, ESTP, or Mines Paris - PSL (second year) | No management test listed in this document | Standardized-test certificate; practice test accepted; no minimum listed in this document |
| Elite athletes (document’s 2024–2025 edition) | French state or recognized degree at least at Licence level, or CTI-accredited engineering degree; listed on the national register | TAGE MAGE required, taken individually through FNEGE | Standardized-test certificate, no published minimum |
| Talent Spring (2026 edition, closed March 13, 2026) | Licence; age, background, and social or health conditions detailed above | No management test listed | Certificate optional |
Which admissions test should you choose for your pathway?
For direct admission, ESCP treats four tests equally and requires only one. It does not state a preference; choose based on your schedule, the language in which you reason best, and the other schools you are applying to. Scores are valid for five years according to the page, so a score earned before applying may still be valid; the score-validity article explains how to check whether yours will be accepted.
Two exceptions apply. Applicants who studied outside France may request ESCP’s test instead of a standardized test, but it is offered only in Berlin, London, Madrid, and Turin; the page does not explicitly extend it to applicants whose studies were only in France. For elite athletes, the 2024–2025 document lists the TAGE MAGE, to be taken individually before submitting the application; confirm the requirements for your cycle. The “TAGE MAGE or GRE” article compares the tests before you book; the TAGE MAGE is scored out of 600, and its guide explains the scoring.
Which English test, and what is the minimum?
The English test is in addition to the management test; one does not replace the other. For direct admission, ESCP publishes a minimum for each test: Cambridge FCE 175, IELTS 6.5, and TOEIC Listening and Reading 900. The TOEIC requirement is therefore Listening and Reading; the article comparing TOEIC Listening and Reading with four-skill tests can help you check what your application requires. Results must be less than two years old.
For TOEFL iBT, the 2027 cycle page says “TOEFL iBT 4.5,” while two undated direct-admission brochures say “TOEFL IBT 90.” These figures use different scales: since January 21, 2026, ETS scores the TOEFL iBT from 1 to 6, and score reports show a comparable score on the former 0–120 scale through January 2028. Do not convert one into the other; use the 2027 page’s figure and ask ESCP how it interprets a score report from before 2026.
A waiver may be requested, according to the brochure, by native English speakers (passport copy) or applicants whose bachelor’s degree was taught entirely in English in an English-speaking country. The English-test waiver article explains how the pathway affects eligibility.
What scores does ESCP publish?
The direct-admission page for the Master in Management says there is no minimum management-test score. The cited pages and brochures give no average, median, or range for the MiM or MBA. The two undated direct-admission brochures also list weightings, which should be confirmed for your cycle: profile 40%, interview 30%, English test 20%, and management test 10%.
The table includes only information ESCP itself publishes, with its scope, period, and source page. If the cited source gives no figure, the entry says “not published” in that source; we do not fill the gap with a figure from elsewhere. The MBA has different English minimums from the Master in Management; a minimum cannot be transferred between programs.
| Test | Pathway or scope | What the school publishes | Period |
|---|---|---|---|
| TAGE MAGE, GMAT, GRE, CAT | Master in Management, direct admission | No minimum score; average, median, and range: not published | 2027 cycle, page checked October 15, 2026 |
| Management tests specific to each pathway | Global Master in Management, Pre-Master, Join a School in France, MBA | No minimum score for the Global MiM; no cutoff published for the others in the cited pages | 2027 cycle |
| All management tests | Weight in direct-admission evaluation | 10% of the evaluation (English 20%, profile 40%, interview 30%) | Undated PDF brochure |
| IELTS, Cambridge FCE, TOEIC Listening and Reading | Master in Management, Pre-Master, Global MiM | Minimums: 6.5; 175; 900 | 2027 cycle |
| TOEFL iBT | Master in Management, direct admission | Minimum: 4.5 on the 1–6 scale (page); 90 on the 0–120 scale (PDF brochures) | 2027 page; undated brochures |
| IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, TOEIC | MBA (waiver possible after three years of study or work in English) | Minimums: IELTS 7; TOEFL 100 (old scale); Cambridge C1; TOEIC 950 | 2027 cycle |
| English test | Join a School in France | Not published | Not published |
The pitfall
Treating “no minimum” as “unimportant,” or one pathway’s cutoff as another’s
For direct MiM admission, ESCP says there is no management-test minimum, while undated brochures give the test 10% of the evaluation. No cutoff does not mean the test is ignored, and ESCP does not say how a score is assessed alongside the rest of the application. The cited sources give no average, and a target recommended by a third party is not an official ESCP requirement.
The second confusion is applying one pathway’s rule to another: TOEIC 900 applies to the Master in Management, while the MBA requires 950; ESCP’s test is offered only at four campuses to applicants who studied outside France; and the 2024–2025 elite-athlete document requires the TAGE MAGE through FNEGE. Identify your program and pathway before interpreting a requirement, and do not carry it over to another application.
What happens after you submit your application?
For direct MiM admission, the online application includes a CV, motivation letter, transcripts, enrollment certificate or degree, ID, and a nonrefundable €180 fee, waived for CROUS scholarship recipients. Only shortlisted candidates interview, online, with a focus on motivation. For Join a School in France, shortlisted candidates have one shared interview, regardless of how many schools invite them.
The 2027 direct-admission process has four rounds, subject to change: deadlines on October 22, 2026, January 14, March 11, and May 4, 2027, with results by November 25, 2026, February 25, April 21, and June 9, 2027. Round four is reserved for applicants whose prior studies were outside France. Join a School in France’s first round closed October 2, 2026; subsequent deadlines are January 7, February 26, and April 19, 2027. The parallel-admissions calendar article can help you plan backward from the deadlines.
Key takeaways
- For direct admission, submit one management test score from the TAGE MAGE, GMAT, GRE, or CAT, plus an English test unless waived; management scores are valid for five years.
- For direct MiM admission, no management-test minimum; the cited sources give no average. Undated brochures assign the test a 10% weighting; confirm this for your cycle.
- English minimums are published and vary by program; the 2027 TOEFL iBT score of 4.5 uses the new 1–6 scale.
- Where the cited source gives no figure, it is “not published” in that source; the pathway, document edition, and page date determine what applies to you.
