Admission to Grenoble Ecole de Management:
which tests are required, and what scores are published

For Grenoble Ecole de Management’s 2026 AST, applicants need a management test and an English test; the official sources consulted publish no minimum score. Other programs have their own tests and minimums: thresholds for the international Master in Management, MSc programs, or MBA programs do not apply to the AST competition.

Which admissions routes should you consider at Grenoble Ecole de Management?

The 2026 AST regulations describe two routes to the Programme Grande École: AST 1, for students pursuing a Bac+2 qualification (BTS, DUT, or second year of a bachelor’s program with 120 ECTS credits), and AST 2, for Bac+3 or Bac+4 qualifications (third year of a bachelor’s program, first year of a master’s program, bachelor’s degree, BUT, or level 6 RNCP qualification). For both routes, proof of the qualification is due by November 30 of the year of enrollment. The level selected at registration is final, and applicants who have unsuccessfully applied three times to AST 1 or AST 2 are no longer eligible. Candidates from another business school’s Grande École program (L3 or M1) are not eligible.

This is the school’s own admissions process; it does not use a shared entrance examination system. The other programs reviewed admit applicants based on their application, with a possible interview: international admission to the Master in Management (English and French tracks), MSc programs, Global MBA, and Executive MBA. The international Master in Management route is for graduates of a foreign university, regardless of nationality; graduates of a French university must apply through the French route. The table reflects pages reviewed on October 15, 2026, without applying one route’s rules to another.

Which admissions test should you take for your pathway?

For AST, the regulations list three accepted management tests, each with a weighting factor of 8: TAGE 2 for AST 1, TAGE MAGE for AST 2, and GMAT. The page summarizes this as “TAGE MAGE or GMAT” for AST 2, with the same pattern using TAGE 2 for AST 1. Only one is needed, and the passages reviewed do not say which the school prefers. Choose based on other factors: the language in which you perform best, test sessions available before the deadline, and the other schools on your list. The article on choosing a management test covers these factors.

The school says FNEGE verifies TAGE and TAGE MAGE scores and documents, and its score prevails if it differs from the score you report. For international routes, a management test is only recommended: GMAT, GRE, or CAT for the English Track, and TAGE MAGE for the French Track. For the three finance MSc programs, it is one of several options for showing quantitative skills, alongside transcripts and CFA Level 1. If you are deciding between the TAGE MAGE and GRE for another school, the article on the GRE as an alternative explains the tradeoffs.

Which English test, and what is the minimum?

For AST, the regulations require a score report from one of four English tests—TOEFL iBT, IELTS, TOEIC, or Duolingo—with a weighting factor of 12, higher than that of the management test. For TOEIC, the admissions page specifies the Listening & Reading format scored out of 990; the article on TOEIC Listening & Reading versus all four skills helps you check which version you are taking. Neither the page nor regulations publish an AST minimum; scores are used for ranking, not measured against a known cutoff.

Minimums appear on other program pages, route by route, and apply only to those programs. The Financial Markets and Risk Management page lists TOEIC 850 while also listing TOEIC among tests not accepted; ask admissions to confirm acceptance before choosing it. Master’s, MSc, and MBA program pages allow a possible waiver if the bachelor’s degree was taught entirely in English, with official proof. No waiver rule appears in the 2026 AST regulations reviewed; ask admissions before skipping the test. Our article on English-test waivers explains how to interpret this condition.

Which scores does the school publish?

For the 2026 AST competition, the sources consulted provide no numerical cutoff: the regulations say admissions panels set the interview-qualifying and final admission cutoffs, which are the same for all sessions that year. The table summarizes the school’s published data and its scope based on sources reviewed on October 15, 2026. The Master in Management page lists a September 2026 start; the Global MBA page covers September 2027. No specific year is given for the other minimums. Figures from rankings or third parties are not included. GMAT scores are never converted to another scale.

The pitfall

Applying one route’s minimum to another route

The thresholds in this table apply to programs with application-based admission: GMAT 600 for three finance MSc programs, TOEIC 700 for the French Track, and TOEIC 850 for other programs. None applies to the 2026 AST competition, for which the sources consulted publish no numerical cutoff. Check the source and cycle for any figure described as “the cutoff”; without a school publication, it is not an official target.

The reverse confusion also occurs: the management test is recommended for international admission, required for AST, and optional for the MBA. For each application, record the route’s page, review date, and intended start date.

What does the school assess beyond test scores?

Under the 2026 regulations, AST has several stages. The online application includes personal information, management-test and English-test scores, and, when applicable, scholarship or disability documentation. Eligible applications are then ranked based on test scores; applicants who meet the interview-qualifying cutoff proceed to oral exams. The regulations also allow up to 40 bonus points for the Arts and Design option in AST 2 and 15 points for certain high-level athletes, with supporting documents. The motivation interview lasts 30 minutes (five-minute presentation, ten minutes for the applicant to interview an admissions panel member, and 15 minutes of discussion), with a weighting factor of 20; the English oral exam lasts 20 minutes, with a weighting factor of 10. Oral exams take place in Grenoble, Paris, or remotely depending on the session.

The school lists a €70 application fee, which is non-refundable but waived for French government scholarship recipients and the school’s own students, and a €1,200 deposit upon admission. The AST page says no résumé or statement of purpose is required. If you are not shortlisted for the oral exams, you may ask to reapply in a later session with a higher TAGE or English score; an applicant who is not admitted or ranked cannot reapply during that year. Our article on AST application documents adds to this list.

What validity period and dates should you keep in mind?

The regulations require management and English tests “that will still be valid on the program start date.” They give no validity period in years, so check each test provider’s policy and confirm that a dated score remains valid at your intended start date. The article on score validity explains how to calculate this. The AST page says scores can be changed up to 48 hours before the registration deadline.

The 2026 AST regulations say applications open on the first Monday in December and close in May of the following year. For 2026, the page lists three sessions, with application deadlines of February 18, March 31, and May 3. These dates have passed. As of October 15, 2026, the page reviewed still shows the 2026 calendar; check the cycle you plan to apply for before registering. The regulations say available places are published on the school’s site each October; the AST page lists 50 places for AST 1 and 500 for AST 2 for the 2026 cycle. Do not reuse those numbers for 2027 without confirmation. MSc and MBA admissions are rolling until July 10 according to the “When to apply” page (2025–26 cycle), subject to availability; the Finance and Investment Banking and International Project Management MSc pages instead list August 31, 2027, for the next start date.

Key takeaways

  • For AST, applicants must submit a management-test score (TAGE 2 or GMAT for AST 1; TAGE MAGE or GMAT for AST 2, weighting factor 8) and an English-test score (weighting factor 12).
  • The 2026 AST sources consulted publish no minimum, average, or numerical cutoff; admissions panels set the cutoffs.
  • Published English minimums and GMAT/GRE thresholds belong to other programs with application-based admission; do not apply them to AST.
  • For the 2026 AST, scores must remain valid on the start date; the page reviewed on October 15 still shows 2026 deadlines. Check the next cycle with the school.
