TAGE MAGE official practice tests:
find and use official resources

Official TAGE MAGE practice tests are available from FNEGE and in L’Officiel du TAGE MAGE, published by L’Étudiant Éditions. The candidate guide introduces the test; FNEGE’s online preparation also offers official tests. Choose a resource that fits your needs and check its instructions against current rules.

Use each resource for what it offers

FNEGE offers a “Candidate Guide” page with an online reader and a large-format version. It is a starting point for learning about the test. FNEGE also has an “Official Practice Tests” page, and its FAQ refers to L’Officiel du TAGE MAGE; L’Étudiant Éditions describes the book as containing official practice tests and exercises with worked solutions.

The online preparation offered by FNEGE in partnership with PrepMyFuture includes test questions supplied by FNEGE. The page distinguishes an offer with four practice tests from a package of nine official practice tests with worked solutions. This digital resource is separate from the online candidate guide and print practice tests.

An exercise created by a test-prep provider can be useful without being an official practice test. The distinction is its origin: original material should be presented as such. Check the author, publisher, and stated purpose rather than relying on the word “official” in a search result.

Use the publisher’s pages as starting points

Links at the bottom of this article lead to FNEGE pages for the candidate guide, print practice tests, and online preparation, as well as the publisher’s book listing. Before buying, check the edition, format, price, and delivery directly with the publisher. An old product page or secondhand listing may not tell you which version you will receive.

For the candidate guide, start from FNEGE’s page rather than a file found on an anonymous host. The Calaméo reader linked by FNEGE offers a public PDF download. This does not authorize redistribution. We link to the resource owners; no official test questions are reproduced here.

Before collecting several books, review a worked solution. Does it help you understand why your reasoning failed, or does it only give you a letter? For independent study, this difference may matter more than the number of exercises advertised on the cover.

Separate solving, review, and follow-up practice

Start by defining your goal. To learn the instructions, work without time pressure and explain each step. To assess your pacing, choose a set you have not already memorized and record which questions you skipped.

After solving the problems, do not look only at the number of correct answers. For each error, write the most specific cause you can: a forgotten data point, an incorrect equation, a conclusion stronger than the text supports, or confusion between two instructions. Then redo the reasoning on a blank sheet.

In your next session, find a new exercise that uses the same method. Getting the answer right because you recognize it from the book does not show that you can transfer the method. A new prompt lets you check that transfer.

The pitfall

An old practice test does not define current rules

An old guide or edition may still help you practice reasoning, but it does not define current rules. FNEGE currently allows one attempt per calendar quarter and says incorrect or unanswered questions do not lose points. If your resource describes a penalty or a different testing frequency, do not rely on those instructions. Keep the useful exercises and follow current directions in your simulations.

Also avoid files advertised as “recent actual tests” without clear provenance. Their reliability is uncertain, and FNEGE rules protect test booklets from public reproduction. A legitimate link to an identified resource is better than a document of unknown origin.

Keep a brief review log

For each session, keep four columns: resource reference, observed difficulty, corrected method, and next exercise to find. For example: “successive percentages; I added the rates; apply each rate to its own base; find an increase followed by a decrease.” This note sets up a specific next step.

If several sessions reveal the same error, stop working through practice tests in sequence and return to the underlying concept. If you understand the method but are too slow, practice it with a few focused exercises. The resource then becomes a decision-making tool rather than a list of pages to finish.

Key takeaways

  • Distinguish the candidate guide, print practice tests, official online tests, and exercises created by prep providers.
  • Check the source, edition, and quality of the worked solutions.
  • Turn every recurring error into a specific study goal.
