Free TOEIC resources:
use official materials to explore the test

ETS Global offers a free TOEIC Listening and Reading sample with audio; ETS also provides access to test-taker handbooks and samples. Use these materials to explore the tasks and rules, then work on your challenges. Free access does not automatically extend to books and courses presented on the same pages.

Which resources does the test maker offer?

The ETS Global French page provides a free Listening and Reading sample and its corresponding audio file. The links are in the preparation section of that page, cited as “The test, in France” in the sources. The sample PDF is also cited directly.

ETS offers a preparation resources page with handbooks and samples. A handbook explains the rules, formats, and procedures; it does not replace a practice set. The free PDF currently linked by ETS Global is labeled TOEIC Form ST-05 and bears a 2016 copyright. It presents excerpts with discontinuous numbering, followed by the Listening script and answer key; it is not a complete 200-question practice test. Use it to explore the tasks without inferring that its date reflects a change to the current format.

In what order should you use them?

First open the handbook to understand what you will need to do. Then choose a small part of the official sample. For Listening, use the associated audio rather than silently reading the script. Answer before checking solutions or transcripts.

After trying it, separate three challenges: instructions, language, and information management. If you misunderstood the task, return to the format. If you missed a word, work on it in context. If you knew the words but lost the thread, analyze the role of information in the message.

Finish with an unfamiliar exercise addressing the challenge you identified. A new formulation helps check that you learned more than the sample answer.

The pitfall

Confusing “one free part” with “everything is free”

An app may provide partial access without making its entire library free. Read what is included before creating an account or paying. A free sample on a page does not make nearby books and courses free resources.

Also do not confuse a placement tool with an official score report. It may help identify a starting point; it does not replace the official test required for an application.

How can you keep your process clear and respect source materials?

Access materials from the publisher to find the current version. Official exercises remain ETS materials: Upsilar articles reference them without republishing them in full. Workshops on this site use their own prompts and explanations.

In your notes, record the resource name and what you have already seen. Repeating a sample can help reinforce a method, but the result of a second attempt no longer measures a first encounter. Alternate in-depth review with new materials.

Key takeaways

  • The associated audio is essential for listening practice.
  • A free sample does not promise a free library.
  • Address one challenge before adding more resources.
